Sean is a writer, research, coordinator, activist and software designer. He acts from his commitment to social justice, individual and collective self-determination and a healthy and enlivening environment.
He is currently working on The Finance Lab, an action-orientated initiative that addresses the question "what does a financial system that serves people and planet look like?". His role on the lab includes coordination, writing, research and relationship management.
Prior to joining Reos, Sean spent over ten years designing, architecting and implementing software systems and processes. At the Free Software Innovation Unit at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, he trained the team there in software development and architecture best practices, work that is regarded as having contributed significantly to software engineering capacity building in Africa and other areas of the developing world. He has done similar work with other organisations including Demon Internet, Winterflood Securities, Socialight, MobGeo and Flexifoil.
An avid proponent of open content and open source software, Sean is part of the Apache Software Foundation and has contributed to several of their projects. He worked in a consultative capacity for The Shuttleworth Foundation and was technical editor of 'The Definitive Guide to Django', the core text on the open source Django web development platform.
Alongside his software work, Sean worked as a coordinator for Pioneers of Change, an international learning community of young people, aged 25-35, who are committed to systemic change. The work included building local networks, cultivating communities of practice, facilitating learning programmes and implementing and supporting the network's online infrastructure.
Sean has written extensive political, cultural and economic commentary, including a critique of the American Express Red Card that was cited by CBS News and The Nation magazine.
Sean holds a BA (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex.
