Nathan is a social scientist combining methodologies from anthropology, sociology, phenomenology, and systems thought. He is a change agent, internal martial arts educator and meditation practitioner committed to building capacity in individuals and systems for deep listening, service and leadership.

Nathan is an associate in the San Francisco office of Reos Partners, working to design, facilitate, document and evolve social innovation processes. He currently lives in São Paulo, Brazil where he is working with Reos’ Global Leadership Team to co-design an “internal Change Lab” to strategically align communication, learning and collaboration across Reos’ global offices.

Since 1998, Nathan has been practicing Chen Style Taijiquan and Hunyuan Qigong. He is currently a 20th Generation practitioner of the Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method system under Master Chen Zhonghua. His work with internal martial arts, energy cultivation, meditation and social research provides a pathway to continued learning about the ontological and social composition of human beings and their communities, and to working with individuals and groups to evolve their capacities for perception, listening, service and leadership.

Nathan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences issued jointly by Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, and the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) in Durban, South Africa. He has also studied at the Center for the Study of Social Systems (CSSS) at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. His graduate field research focused on informal social organization and the political agency of indigenous movements in Cochabamba and LaPaz, Bolivia.

Nathan is interested in the complex relationships between ecosystems, systemic social behaviors, institutions, and the construction of social reality. Nathan is also a poet, capoeirista, musician and jazz enthusiast.
