She has recently been involved in the Leadership and Innovation Network for Collaboration in the Children Sector (LINC) and Kago Ya Bana, meaning “Building Together for Our Children,” both initiatives focused on the care of children in South Africa.
Her previous position was Project Manager at ABC Ulwazi, a radio production and training consultancy organisation. There, Busi oversaw all projects and productions and supported the project teams. She was also the coordinator for HIV/ AIDS communication at ABC Ulwazi, where she oversaw execution of all their HIV/ AIDS projects and facilitated the creation of Listeners Associations – dialogue forums linked to community radio stations – in all 9 provinces.
Prior to that, she held a position as a Volunteer Development Manager at AFS/ Interculture South Africa, an international exchange student program. Her role involved initiating volunteer structures in communities throughout South Africa, where she set up 20 chapters in 7 of the 9 provinces.
Both her personal and professional paths have involved social transformation, with a specific focus on community engagement, which has in turn involved her in numerous social change networks.
Busi was part of the National Steering Committee of YSAWID – Young South African Women in Dialogue – a progeny of SAWID (South African Women in Dialogue), which was conceived by the office of the spouse of the President of the Republic of South Africa and initiated to create an independent forum where women from all sectors of society can gather to break barriers and to talk and listen to one another.
She is also the co-founder of The Gumboots Foundation, a non-profit organisation that provides South Africans living abroad the opportunity to be involved with their communities by contributing financial resources.
As part of Pioneers of Change, a learning community of young social change agents on five continents, Busi led a social entrepreneurship exchange between South Africa and Sweden in partnership with the Social Entrepreneurship Forum.
She is a graduate of the Common Purpose Navigator Programme (November 2003), a program designed for emerging leader in various fields.
As a member of Civicus she presented a workshop at the World Assembly in Botswana on the 24th March 2004 under the topic “Fuelling Civic Participation.”
