Change Labs

Change Labs

A change lab is multi-stakeholder effort to address a particular complex challenge in a given social system. Depending on the challenge and the system, a change lab can be quick or extended, modest or ambitious, delimited or open-ended.

We help our partners and clients convene a team—drawn from across sectoral, functional, and other boundaries—that has diverse perspectives and interests and that is committed to acting together. We work with this team as they deepen their shared understanding of the realities they wish to affect, clarify their collective intention, and create new realities.

We help these teams produce four types of practical results. They construct new insights about their system (including their own role in it) and new high-leverage options to shift it. They form new and stronger relationships within their team and with other stakeholders. They build their capacities to work together and to lead and effect change. Out of these insights, relationships and capacities, they take actions—they execute new initiatives, policies, and enterprises—that address their challenges.
