In 2007, we led 30 community members of Alexandra Township in Johannesburg through a four-month-long capacity-building process.

The process improved the teams' collaboration skills and effectiveness as HIV/AIDS service providers, and led to the creation of a new programme called “Lapa Latirisano” (“Home of Collaboration”), designed to provide more holistic family care and support through collaboration across organisations.

Understanding our shared reality more deeply, and from diverse perspectives, is the first step in our work to address a social challenge.

Teams share their ideas for innovation through model building exercises. Models typically go through many iterations before truly new ideas emerge - ideas that can then form the seeds of new action strategies.

Various exercises extract and make visible the guiding ideas at the basis of behaviors and ways of working.

In South Africa, dance and fun often punctuate the work day.
