As part of our ongoing efforts in Colombia, this November 2007 cross-sector dialogue involved leaders representing many streams of Colombian life.

Leaders from government, the political establishment and its opposition, companies, trade unions, media, universities, and other civil society groups met in order to experience whether or not they could and wanted to work together to bridge age-old divides, and if so, to begin to design and implement practical measures they can undertake together to move the country forward.

The resounding response from those gathered was a powerful consensus that indeed, differences can be the basis for co-creative initiative. This meeting has followed on from scenario work we did a decade earlier in Colombia (please see our project Destino Colombia) and led, in 2009, to the beginning of a much larger, long-term effort to construct a National Agenda for Colombia and to achieve real progress on its essential points.

Representatives from industry, government, and civil society use a model-building exercise to collectively imagine how Colombia's existing National Competitiveness agenda integrates with the common call for Collective Prosperity.

Leaders who have for decades been on 'opposite sides of the river,' as is said in Bogotá, find unexpected allies. Here, they uncover their shared current reality, establishing a baseline from which they can move forward together.

Much essential dialogue occurs in one on one exchanges such as this one. Coming from different sectors and working within narrow silos, the opportunity to meet a rich diversity of Colombia leaders was very welcome.

The meeting pictured here lasted only one day, but is part of a larger, long-term, ongoing partnership in Colombia among Reos Partners and other organizations.
